Gemma Cormican Psychotherapy and Supervsion
Therapy is the act of caring for someone, or the method of caring, and comes from the Greek θεραπεία, for "healing."
I believe that it's through our relationships that healing occurs in its truest form
Life can be pretty overwhelming and sometimes even exhausting, but I’m here to guide you through any obstacles you may face.

Having worked as a therapist for 20 years, and completed advanced training in a variety of areas, I specialise in supporting clients who have very complex and/or multiple needs.
Whether you're struggling with disordered eating, self-harm, trauma or something else, I can support you in recognising the role our relationships, with ourselves and others, play in the shaping of daily experiences, and help you to identify and understand patterns appearing in the thoughts and feelings that you have toward yourself.

I believe that everyone is different. As such, I support and affirm difference, while addressing mental health challenges in a respectful, understanding, and inclusive way.

I’m a registered Psychotherapist and supervisor with the UK Council for Psychotherapy, and I’d love to help you on your journey toward healing and self-discovery.

I work in person (in a small town between York and Hull called Holme on Spalding Moor), and also offer remote sessions, using Zoom or over the phone. I offer most of my appointments in the evenings, early mornings or weekends in order to fit around my clients work and family commitments.
“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change”
Carl Rogers
My Approach
Relationships are at the forefront of my practice.
I support people in developing a deeper understanding of themselves and others, to make sense of repeating patterns within their lives, and to create opportunities to build on their strengths and resources to create the changes that they are looking for.

It's through my connection with clients that I support them in accepting all aspects of themselves and their difference. This enables them to integrate all parts of themselves into their identity and feel whole.
As a relational psychotherapist I work with individuals to offer a calm and safe space for people to talk about and unpick their worries and concerns, without judgment or blame.
If you contact me, please be assured that I will answer any questions you have about therapy with kindness and compassion.
